    Surprisingly and against current beliefs this study shows rapid weight loss appears to be superior to gradual weight loss in achieving target weight. - Katrina Purcell, “Want to lose that flab? Then do it fast says unconventional approach”

    Today’s gymspiration: Slamball

    The fitter I get the more I want to take on a new sport - get the competitive fires burning, y’know? So I’ve been investigating different sports and a few weeks ago I came across what’s possibly the most perfect sport in the world: Slamball.

    Slamball is a full contact sport that combines trampolines and basketball. Pretty sure I’ve never seen anything more amazing. The only solution for my newfound love affair is to found the Australian Slamball League. Clearly.

    Watch some serious Slamball action:

    Today’s gymspiration: double unders

    I concluded today’s workout with a super-fun 30 minute double under session, while wearing a 10kg vest. I’m still under the weather, so I was feeling pretty tough after I knocked that over… Until I saw the following video, that is.

    At first I thought Buddy Lee was having a bit of laugh, what with his ADD-octopus approach to the skipping rope. But then I realized; Buddy Lee has serious skipping skills. Anyone who can utter the word ‘quintuple’ while talking about skipping and still be smiling must be kind of insane. And I like it.

    Consider Buddy Lee the official figure of Sunday gymspiration.

    Garage-to-gym transformation: it’s almost done!

    After a few hours work today (thanks Dad!) my garage-to-gym transformation is almost complete.

    If you remember what day one looked like, you can see a lot’s been done. The punching bag was moved and lowered, rubber matting was laid across the whole floor and my sweet punching men have been assembled and mounted.

    Now all that’s left to do is set up my stereo, work out a storage system, and remind my dad to make me my pull up bar (haha) and then the transformation is finished. Can’t wait to start kicking my own butt out here.

    Today’s gymspiration: Bear Grylls

    I’m a little under the weather today, so today’s gymspiration is a quick (yet fully appropriate) one: Bear Grylls swimming in a bog pit.

    I’m guessing the local pool is looking a lot more inviting right about now, yeah?

    Today’s gymspiration: Nelly Furtado

    Canadian songstress Nelly Furtado takes up today’s gymspiration mantle.

    Nelly Furtado first demonstrated her physical prowess in her video clip for “I’m Like A Bird”, proving she was lithe enough to fly as she levitated here and there effortlessly.

    Then came second single “Turn Off The Light” which proved her physicality wasn’t just a one time event, as she unleashed a capoeira-laced video clip onto the world.

    The “Turn Off Your Light” video clip is a triple threat for gymspiration, offering three different types of exercise in one video:
    01. Swimming (in a swamp);
    02. Dancing (on a chair);
    03. Capoeira (in a street).

    There are three excellent options for today’s work out. Gymspiration on?

    We’re not doing our young people any favours by pretending that it’s OK to be unhealthily fat. Yes, it’s OK to be big-boned, or a bit chubby, or pear-shaped, or short like me. As long as you’re healthy. Susie O’Brien, Herald Sun

    Today’s gymspiration: apl.de.ap from the Black Eyed Peas

    Gymspiration today comes in the form of Black Eyed Peas bouncing bean apl.de.ap.

    The Black Eyed Peas are renowned for their frenetic, high-energy live shows. For the 2+ hours they’re on stage each night, the band don’t stop moving. While it’s hard to single out just one member as a figure of gymspiration (Fergie Ferg is still on the way, y’all) today it was hard to go past apl.de.ap.

    Introduced to hip hop via the world of breakdancing, it’s no surprise apl.de.ap incorporates that influence into the Black Eyed Peas’ live shows. His breakdancing skills are unrivaled on stage, however it’s apl.de.ap’s acrobatic prowess that sets him apart from the rest. When he busts out an effortless backflip mid-set you can’t deny him today’s gymspiration nod.

    Today’s gymspiration: Randy Orton

    Today’s gymspiration focuses on WWE superstar Randy Orton.

    Now, I don’t care if you cry “fake” over the WWE. Fake or not, this boy is a damn fine athlete. Standing tall at 1.93m and weighing in at 111kg, Randy Orton is nothing short of a man mountain.

    Combining strength, power and agility with a lack of fear, he puts his body on the line every time he steps into the ring, making Randy Orton today’s perfect pillar of gymspiration.

    It doesn’t hurt that he’s a spunk, either.
